A LINDLEY lollipop lady was today honoured for her long service.

Jean Elliott, 61, was presented with a 25-year long service award by Kirklees Council for her work at Lindley Infant School.

Pupils presented her with a bunch of flowers to mark her achievement.

Mrs Elliott, of Lidget Street, has worked at the school for nearly 26 years.

She became a school crossing patrol worker when her three children attended Lindley Infant School.

She said: "I wanted a job where I could be off during the school holidays.

"Now one of my grandchildren comes to this school, so it's been a family affair really."

Mrs Elliott loves her job and has no plans to give it up.

She said: "I live very close to the school, so it's easy to get here and I don't mind the bad weather.

"My favourite part of the job is seeing the children and watching them grow up. I'm seeing children I have helped cross in the past bringing their own children to school now."
