A FORMER take-away owner has been prosecuted for failing to secure bins to dispose of trade waste.
Arshad Ahmed, 47, appeared at Dewsbury Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged with ‘failing to dispose of trade waste in locked rodent proof receptacle’.
The court heard how waste enforcement officers attended Raja’s Chicken Bar, at Longroyd Bridge on March 21, and discovered one locked bin and one uncovered. Boxes of rubbish were also found alongside the bins.
The court heard how Ahmed was issued with a fixed penalty notice which was not paid.
He told the court the contract with his waste management company was coming to an end and as a result the bin had not been replaced.
He explained the rubbish was often disturbed by drug addicts who searched for food and spread the waste, which was then prone to attract pests.
He pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined £190.
