RASTRICK library is gearing up for its 100th birthday in 2012.

And to celebrate staff are launching a local history project.

They want local people to get involved with memories and stories from the Rastrick area.

The library will welcome anything to do with Rastrick’s past, including letters, certificates or old newspaper cuttings which can all go in the archive.

Library staff will also be working with historians and genealogists to research the project in the run-up to the centenary.

Carole Heaton, Libraries operations and customer services manager for Calderdale Council, said: “We’re not asking people to give up their precious things.

“We just want them to bring them along to the library so that, with their permission, they can perhaps be scanned and catalogued”.
