For lovers of horror films it was too good a chance to miss.

Dozens of mums and dads and kids got up early yesterday morning to take part in another 5k zombie run at that most atmospheric of places, historic Beaumont Park.

The State of Decay challenge saw runners trying to complete the course with the additional hazard of an army of zombies determined to infect them.

Last year’s event organised by Huddersfield Pendragon Round Table was a “roaring success” and this year’s run is primarily in aid of the Huddersfield-based Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice.

By popular demand it was decided to host more escorted children’s races, (a shorter course with less threatening zombies to give children a chance to get involved).

Andrew Sparks, one of the organisers, said: “The weather was fine and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

“There was quite a lot of fancy dress with a father and a couple of kids coming in the same outfit. People really got into the spirit of it.”
