STYLISH, powerful and, oh so classy – they are just a few of the accolades I must heap on the BMW 3 Series M Sport.
For this mighty motor really does have the lot. In fact, if I had to find fault, it is almost too responsive, but that’s a gripe I can well live with.
It boasts looks that will turn heads, especially due to its M Sport trim which means you have an elegant, low slung saloon with 18-inch alloy wheels and lowered suspension.
And inside, the spec is top notch including air con, an on-board computer, excellent sound system complete with a loudspeaker unit, and an MP3-friendly point.
The multi-function steering wheel means the driver is left to concentrate on the road without the distraction of searching for volume controls.
There is ample room for four adults to travel in comfort with plenty of legroom and the boot area has space for all the luggage too.
But, to be honest, the trim levels and comfort touches are something we come to expect as standard from BMW these days, so what about the drive itself?
One word describes it – awesome.
Both in and around town and on the open road, the 3 Series lives up to all expectations.
Its road holding on corners and bends is excellent and the response from the 3.0-litre engine is smooth and powerful as it cruises through the six gears – easy to see why it boasts stats of 0-62mph in just 5.6 seconds.
Of course, the safety specification on the 3 Series is plentiful too, with numerous airbags including head ones, cornering brake control, dynamic stability control, rain sensor and automatic driving lights control and run flat tyres plus warning system - to name but a few.
It’s true, the 3 Series M Sport is not cheap, but then sometimes you really do get what you pay for.
And in this case it’s a whole lot of car, an excellent reputation and hours of driving fun – guaranteed!
