A loving son has paid tribute to his late father’s memory through the latest playground craze.

Connor Reid is raising funds for Kirkwood Hospice which cared for Johnny Reid in his final days.

And he’s doing so by making and selling loom bands - the friendship bracelets that have taken the world by storm.

10-year old Connor lost his dad four weeks ago to pancreatic cancer. He was aged just 36.

Now despite his grief his mother Jill and five-year-old brother Corey have supported him in his idea to sell loom bands for the charity which helped his father.

Mum Jill, 38, of Reinwood said: “Johnny would be so proud of Connor and Corey.

“To lose a parent at such a young age, the boys just wanted to do something for the hospice which helped their daddy.

“Kirkwood Hospice has been fantastic to us and Johnny’s parents.

“Johnny was at the hospice when he passed away.

“He had been in there before in April for a few weeks and then came home and went back in just days before he died.

“The staff have given us so much support and it’s such a wonderful local charity and Connor wanted to do something to help.

“He has already raised £450 which is fantastic and a chance to give something back.”

Jill said Johnny first knew something was wrong in August last year when he went to his GP and had tests.

She explained: “It wasn’t diagnosed at first. He had tests and kept going backwards and forwards to the doctors and they thought it was his gallstones.

“He went in for an operation in December and that’s only when the diagnosis was confirmed as pancreatic cancer.

”His condition went downhill very rapidly. It’s been horrific for the boys to see their daddy so poorly.”

But sadly despite chemotherapy doctors confirmed that the treatment had not worked and Johnny’s condition was terminal.

He was admitted to Kirkwood Hospice days before he passed away on May 22.
