A lorry driver was released from hospital last night after a horror crash at Holmfirth.

He had been flown by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance to hospital after the lorry overturned on the moorland stretch of the A635 Greenfield Road late yesterday afternoon.

There were fears he was badly hurt but he was allowed home after treatment for cuts and bruises.

The driver’s wife tweeted: “Thank you for all your concern, we have just left hospital. Lots of stitches & cuts but he’s going to be ok. I’d like to say a huge thank you to those that stopped to help my husband.”

The crash blocked the road between Holmfirth and Greenfield until late last night as police had to call in specialist heavy recovery equipment to right the stricken lorry.

They also had to arrange for the load of many tonnes of wood chippings to be shifted from the rear of the lorry and the road, which took hours to complete.
