A LORRY fire on the M62 brought problems for drivers today.

The vehicle caught fire on the eastbound carriageway between junction 22 at Windy Hill and Scammonden.

Fire crews were alerted at 6.12am and arrived to find the trailer loaded with chipboard well ablaze.

Police shut two lanes of the motorway because of the fire-fighting operation but at 7.39am shut the entire carriageway because of dense smoke drifting across the road.

Traffic jams stretched back for several miles.

Five fire crews including Huddersfield and Brighouse were at the scene at the height of the blaze.

The third lane was re-opened shortly after 8am but there continued to be delays for some time after that
