THIS stuck lorry caused massive problems for drivers.

The 50-ton French lorry became jammed yesterday when it came down narrow Cross Firs Street at Paddock and tried to turn on to Lowergate.

But it "grounded" on the road and became completely stuck at 4.15pm. Traffic quickly built up.

Police were called and had to stop vehicles at Paddock Head roundabout from going down Lowergate.

Many cars had to do U-turns, as the road was impassable.

Sgt Tim O'Sullivan, of Huddersfield police, said: "The driver tried to move the lorry, but it proved an impossible task.

"In the end, we needed to call in heavy lifting gear."

A specialist recovery lorry arrived at 6.50pm and the lorry was finally shifted.

The road was clear again by 8.10pm.
