FORTY tyres have been dumped in Dalton.

The tipping is the latest in a series and, says resident Tom Marsden, people feel they are fighting a losing battle.

"It's so annoying. We really have a big problem up here," said Mr Marsden, 75, of Bowness Drive.

"I'm a member of the Kilner Bank Improvement Group and it's just the same there. We really do feel to be fighting a losing battle."

In the latest incident, tippers dumped the tyres during the night at the entrance to Dalton Cricket and Bowling Club on Dalton Fold.

Mr Marsden said he was worried they could be set alight or rolled about by children, causing them injury.

He has reported the dumping to the police and Kirklees Council's highways and environment departments. He said Kirklees had cleaned up many incidents of tipping in the area.
