GROUPS in Kirklees are celebrating after being awarded a share of National Lottery cash.

As reported in yesterday's Examiner, Rawthorpe Infant and Nursery School is setting up a special tennis club after receiving £898 from Awards for All in Yorkshire.

The Dalton Meet 'n' Eat Club, £5,000 for lightweight chairs to be used at a luncheon club; King James's School, Almondbury, £5,000 for cricket nets; Fartown High School, £5,000 for a parents' discussion group and to develop literacy and IT skills; Multi-Care Organisation (Huddersfield), £4,989, to set up an activity and support group for disabled African-Carib- bean men.

Huddersfield St Patricks's Day Parade Association, £4,700 for a pipe and drum band and ceilidh band from Ireland to take part in the parade; Heckmondwike Players, £4,300 towards staging Hello Dolly at Cleckheaton Town Hall; Thornhill Junior and Infant School, £3,180 to train parents and volunteer helpers in child protection, first aid and sports; Borough of Kirklees Swimming Club, £2,970 for young swimmers to take part in intensive training abroad.

Almondbury Junior School, £2,508, to train parents and helpers to lead activities in after-school and lunchtime clubs and in the community; Hade Edge Pre-school Group, £2,500 to refurbish the church hall and promote community use of the building; Cyclists' Touring Club (Huddersfield Section), £1,330, to set up and run four community cycle rides and buy new equipment.

Almondbury Playgroup, £1,000, for a shed to store outdoor play equipment; Upperthong Women's Institute, £800, for art, music and history classes; Spen Valley District Scout Council, £5,000 to renovate a training centre.
