IT was love at first sight when Frank and Jean Moorhouse met at a dance at Huddersfield Town Hall more than 50 years ago.

The couple, who live at Wetlands Road, Meltham, met at a ballroom dance held on a Saturday night when they were both in their early 20s.

Jean said: “When Frank asked me to dance, I was all for it. I just knew that he was the one for me.”

Not long afterwards they were married at Berry Brow Methodist Church in Birch Road and now they have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Frank was a pattern weaver and started and ended his working life at Taylor and Lodge’s, with stints in the RAF and other textile mills in-between.

Jean also originally worked in textiles before working at care homes Enfield Down, Honley, and Greenacres in Meltham.

According to Jean, the secret of a happy marriage is “sticking by each other through thick and thin.”

The couple have a son Darren and daughter Gail.

They have continued their association with Huddersfield Town Hall.

“We have had lots of visits back to the Town Hall over the years, “ said Jean.

“Our happiness for live entertainment has never waned and we have enjoyed concerts, choirs, orchestras and jazz.”

They celebrated their half-century together with an open house on Friday and a meal with family at The Huntsman pub, on Greenfield Road, above Holmfirth, at the weekend.
