Hospital staff on lower incomes will pay less to park at work as part of a shake-up of parking charges at Huddersfield and Calderdale hospitals.
And staff on higher wages at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and Calderdale Royal Hospital , Halifax, will have to pay more in a scheme to earn the hospital’s in-debt trust an extra £162,896 this year.
The charge for patients and visitors staying up to two hours will increase from £2.50 to £2.80, although the costs of longer stays will remain unaffected.
Stays of up to 30 minutes will remain free.

Meanwhile, staff on pay bands 1 and 2 (£15,000 to £18,000) will receive a discount on their parking.
Employees in pay band 3 (£16,800 to £19,655) will pay the same while those in higher pay bands (£19,217 and above) will pay extra to use staff car parks.
Hospitals director of estates and facilities, Lesley Hill, said: “As a large employer we have to balance the needs of employees with those of our patients and the local community. All the income we receive from parking goes into providing patient care.
“The proposed changes would mean a small increase for members of the public who park for less than two hours and would bring us in line with neighbouring trusts.
“For our staff, the changes will mean a decrease in the cost of parking for many of our colleagues who are on the lower salary scales.”
