TWO men cheated death when their car flew off a country road.

It flew 40ft over a fence before smashing into a railway banking and rolling over several times.

Firefighters arrived at the scene on Whitehall Road, between Hipperholme and Norwood Green, to find the passenger stuck on top of the driver inside the Peugeot 206, which was on its side.

The car left the road at a bad bend at 8.45pm last night. The bend has been the scene of other crashes over the years.

Watch Manager Andy Medlock, from Brighouse fire station, said: “There is a right-hand bend followed by a left-hand one, which tend to catch people out as it is very tight.

“The car had cleared a 5ft fence, leaving it totally undamaged. We think the car may have been airborne for up to 40ft before hitting the railway embankment.

“It then rolled back down several times and ended up resting against the fence.

“Both men seemed uninjured but had to be held from the car, which was on its side. When cars are like that doors take a lot of strength to push them out and open.’’
