THE tragic death of a close friend has inspired a charity run by Colne Valley woman Lucy Radcliffe.

Lucy, 22, is taking part in this month’s Great North Run in memory of Katie Martin.

Katie, who was 20, died from an asthma attack while on holiday in Bali two years ago.

Payroll worker Lucy, of Wellhouse, Golcar, who went to Holmfirth High School with Katie, is raising money for Asthma UK.

She said: “I did the Great North Run for Cancer Research UK two years ago, but wanted to do something for Asthma UK after what happened to Katie.

“I would like to make a difference to the millions of people around the UK with asthma in the hope that no-one else loses their battle.

“I’m a bit nervous about it, but I’m looking forward to it.

“I was in a lot of pain after the last one, but it was worth it.”

Lucy said she was running up and down hills in and around Huddersfield to train for the September 30 event.

“I did it in two hours 45 minutes last time, so I’m aiming to beat that.

“I want to raise about £350.”
