A CORONER ruled that a man who plunged to his death on the M62 took his own life.

Roger Whittaker ruled yesterday that Jack Binns had killed himself by jumping on to the motorway from the Brown Cow bridge at Scammonden on December 20.

Several motorists saw the 56-year-old Halifax man plunge 150ft on to the central reservation at about 8.40am.

Mr Binns died instantly of multiple injuries.

The court heard that two days earlier he had told his son: "Don't be surprised if you don't see me again."

Mr Binns, an engineer, is believed to have been depressed since his marriage broke up 20 years ago.

"This is a very distressing case," said Mr Whittaker.
