A LEADING Huddersfield cyclist and his family were lucky to survive a M1 crash.

Richard Binks, 38, his wife, Anne, 41, and their six-year- old daughter, Lorna, were returning home from a holiday in Dorset and Stratford when their Ford Mondeo was hit by a lorry near Sheffield.

Anne was driving as they passed the sliproad leading from Woodall Services in South Yorkshire.

Richard said: "It all happened so fast. The lorry came out of the services and pulled straight across into the second lane where we were.

"It hit the front of our car and pushed us towards the central reservation.

"Anne wrenched the steering wheel back so we missed the barrier, but the car then hit the lorry's trailer."

He added: "The motorway was very busy at the time and it was amazingly lucky that no other vehicles hit us.

"If they had, we could have been killed."

Richard, Anne and Lorna were all left with bruises, whiplash and shock.

The family live in Longwood.
