A STRETCH of the M1 in Yorkshire is to close on Saturday night to allow for the safe installation of a new footbridge over the motorway.
The motorway will close between junctions 36 and 37, near Barnsley, from 9pm on Saturday to 9am on Sunday.
The work is dependent on weather conditions on the day, as lifting the bridge into place can be affected by high winds.
During the closure, signed diversion routes will be in place. These are:
l Long-distance northbound traffic should leave the M1 at junction 32 and follow the M18, the A1(M) at Wadworth and the M62, before rejoining the M1 northbound at junction 42 (Lofthouse).
Long-distance southbound traffic should follow the same route in reverse.
l Local northbound traffic should leave at junction 36 and follow the A61 (Tankersley), the A616, the A629 (via Wortley and Thurgoland) and the A628 before re-joining the M1 northbound at junction 37.
Local southbound traffic should follow the same route in reverse.
