DRIVERS faced long delays on the M62 above Huddersfield this afternoon.

A lorry fire on the westbound carriageway near Milnrow at Junction 21 closed all three lanes for a time.

Fire crews called to the scene also had to close all four lanes on the eastbound carriageway to allow fire-fighters to get near the scene.

Hundreds of vehicles were trapped in tailbacks on both carriageways and Highways Agency staff said delays of up to an hour were expected.

Just before 6pm the eastbound reopened fully and lane three (outside lane) of the westbound also reopened.

Traffic had been queueing back as far as Outland at Junction 23.
