A YOUNG driver who crashed through a motorway barrier had swerved to avoid a collision.

As reported yesterday, the 19-year-old had to be rescued after the incident on the M62 on Wednesday evening.

It has now emerged her Peugeot 206 ended up in woodland on the edge of the eastbound carriageway between junctions 24, Ainley Top, and 25, Brighouse, after she took evasive action to avoid hitting another vehicle.

Firefighters from Huddersfield, Elland and Brighouse were called to help paramedics at about 7.40pm.

They cut the door off her car to pull her out.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment to suspected shoulder and hip injuries but was not badly hurt.
