Morning commuters were hit by delays on the M62 after a series of incidents.

A two-car smash, a horse box fire and horses on the road all put drivers on the go slow around junctions 22 on Rishworth Moor and 23 at Outlane from 7:34am to 9:34am.

The horse box caught on fire in the eastbound carriageway at junction 23 at 7:34am, prompting fire crews from Batley, West Yorkshire Police and the Highways Agency to attend.

Then two minutes later, there was a two car smash opposite in the westbound direction.

No-one was hurt in the accident but two lanes were temporarily closed while the scene was cleared.

The third incident happened at 9:34am when the Highways Agency was called out again to help rescue horses who had found their way onto the motorway in between junctions 22 and 23.

Traffic was halted for around 14 minutes while the animals were removed.
