IT’S official, drivers using the M62 can expect to get held up.
A survey today from the Highways Agency revealed that a driver using the busy motorway could expect to wait for two minutes in every 10 miles.
The survey looked at a 49-mile section of the M62 from Pontefract to Whitefield, near Manchester.
The stretch which passes Huddersfield is used by tens of thousands of drivers every day.
Officials estimated that drivers lost 4.8m hours in hold-ups on that stretch.
The worst-affected was the eastbound carriageway, where the journey time could be extended by traffic jams from 42 minutes to 52 minutes, an increase of 24%.
The agency’s survey covered 11 roads. It showed that motorists were held up for a total of 18.29m hours, the equivalent of 2,088 years.
