THE M62 entry slip-road at Outlane will be closed for most of today after fears that a building struck by fire this morning could collapse on it.

Fire crews were called to the building fire at the far end of New Hey Road in Outlane at 6.20am.

Four fire crews from Huddersfield, Elland and Brighouse were at the scene, tackling the fire which has ravaged the four-storey building, which had been used to store timber.

The blaze was visible from the eastbound carriageway of the M62 around Junction 23.

A Highways Agency spokesman said: "Drivers seeking to join the M62 are being directed to join instead at Junction 24.

"There is no slip-road onto the eastbound carriageway at Junction 23.

"The exit slip-road from the eastbound carriageway remains open but the westbound slip-road will remain closed until further notice and until the fire service has advised the commercial site alongside it is safe."
