A MACHETE-wielding gang terrified customers and staff in a raid at a Huddersfield pub.

Four or five masked men burst into the Woolpack on Deighton Road, Deighton, at 10.20pm last night.

One carried a 3ft-long machete and guarded the door while his accomplices threatened everyone in the pub.

One of the gang picked up a bar stool and forced the landlord and landlady to open the till and hand over money.

Sgt Tim O'Sullivan, of Huddersfield police, said: "Customers were in the pub at the time and the gang threatened them during the raid which must have been terrifying.

"Someone may well have seen the gang outside before they put their masks on or making their getaway afterwards. Did they flee on foot or get in a vehicle?"

All the gang wore balaclavas or ski masks and dark clothes and at least two of them are African-Caribbeans.

One of them is around 5ft 4ins and stocky.

Another is slightly taller and of athletic build.

At least two more were around 6ft and slim.
