A major proposal has been unveiled for Lindley Moor.

Developers have outlined a plan for two industrial units - for two different manufacturers - with around £20m investment in the site.

And there are plans for 253 houses on the site off Lindley Moor Road and Crosland Road.

Stirling Scotfield, the development and investment group behind the plan, is unable to confirm who the two manufacturers are.

But one is already based in Kirklees and another will relocate into the borough.

A planning application has been submitted to Kirklees Council today but it is yet to be made public on the council’s website.

The site was previously earmarked for a data centre campus, which was approved for planning permission in 2011 but later fell through.

A spokesperson for Stirling Scotfield today told the Examiner: “We are pleased that after a long period of uncertainty following the aftermath of the 2008 global financial crisis, we have finally been able to bring together a project that will deliver real benefits for local people and the Kirklees area.

“Our proposal will protect existing jobs, create new ones and bring further improvements to the local highway network.

“The residential part of our proposal will bring much-needed new homes, investment in local education and the proposal will bring a new homes bonus for Kirklees Council as well as significant income from business rates and council tax.”

In 2011, when the data centre was approved, the Huddersfield Planning Committee rejected a joint housing bid.

In April the same committee approved an outline application for employment uses on the land.

The latest application seeks to include housing, with Stirling Scotfield, in partnership with Harron Homes and Taylor Wimpey Homes.

Stirling Scotfield say they are in advanced negotiations with two international manufacturing companies but could not be drawn on who they are.

Features of the new 18.68 hectare planning bid are:

  • An industrial development comprising 270,436 sqft of B1, B2, B8 industrial floor space, split over two units.
    Plot A comprises 220,215 sqft with 275 parking spaces and service yard.
    Plot B comprises 50,221 sqft with 82 parking spaces and service yard;
  • Residential development of 253 dwellings to be developed by Harron Homes and Taylor Wimpey;
  • Public open space and landscaping;
  • A new access point from Lindley Moor Road (serving Plot A);
  • New access roads from Crosland Road - separate accesses serving Plot B and residential development;
  • Engineering operations for managing drainage;
  • Pedestrian/cycle routes throughout the site.
