A MAJOR refurbishment of Huddersfield Town Hall takes place this summer.

Kirklees Council announced that the Reception Room will be closed for two months for an upgrade.

The first floor room, which is used for weddings and meetings, will get a new carpet and the ceiling will be improved.

Audio-visual equipment will be installed to make it more attractive as a conference venue.

Work will begin on July 15 and is due to be complete by September 21. The Old Court Room on the ground floor will be available for bookings as normal during this time.

The work is the second part of a £1m refurbishment of the Victorian town hall. Last year the three smaller meeting rooms on the ground floor were redecorated.

The council’s Cabinet member for culture and leisure Clr Mary Harkin said: “This latest refurbishment work continues to improve and enhance the building for members of the public to enjoy for many years to come.”
