Emley post office is on the move – while the one at Marsh is to be expanded.

The post office at Emley is to move just yards from its current location at Church Street to the Londis store at Beaumont Street.

The move is part of a near-£2bn drive across the Post Office network to extend opening hours and upgrade branches.

There are similar moves at several other Huddersfield area offices, including Netherthong and Newsome.

The Emley post office will open seven days a week, from 7.30am to 8.30pm on weekdays, 9am to 8.30pm on Saturdays and 9am to 8pm on Sundays.

The Church Street branch will close at 12.30pm on Saturday, March 22, and open at the new site at 1pm on Monday, March 24.

During the brief closure period, customers can use the post office at Barnsley Road, Flockton.

Post Office Ltd regional network manager Adrian Wales said: “We understand how important having a post office is to residents in Emley and we are confident that this new modern post office will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”

Meanwhile, the post office at Marsh is being modernised to provide an open-plan branch with extended opening hours.

The branch at Westbourne Road will have four serving positions – a mix of two screened, one open-plan and a post office retail counter.

The branch will open from 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday – providing an extra five opening hours a week for customers.

Marsh post office will close for refurbishment from 5.30pm on Thursday, February 13, and reopen at 1pm on Friday, March 7.

Customers can use branches at Northumberland Street in the town centre or at Church Street, Paddock, during the closure period.

Meanwhile, Royal Mail is reminding customers that its delivery operations at Flockton will transfer to Wakefield delivery office from February 3, 2014.

The move follows the announcement of the temporary closure of Flockton post office on March 28 with the retirement of the subpostmaster.

The premises at Barnsley Road will become unavailable as it is not owned or leased by Post Office Ltd and efforts to find a new site in the village are under way. Customers who want to collect parcels or signed-for items – which cannot be left under Delivery to Neighbour – will be able to pick these up from Grange Moor post office from February 3.
