A MAN in his 30s had to be cut out of his vehicle after it crashed in Birkby.

All three emergency services were called to the two car crash scene at the junction between Halifax Old Road and King Cliffe Road at around 11.15pm on Thursday.

Police closed the road at the junction while fire crews cut the roof off the vehicle, a Vauxhall Astra, to free the casualty.

He was taken to the Royal Infirmary by ambulance suffering from neck and chest injuries. His condition was not thought to be life threatening.

The driver of the second vehicle, a Peugeot 306, was treated for shock at the scene.

Police are now investigating the cause of the crash.
