TRANSPORT police are investigating the death of a man who was hit by a train on the Huddersfield to Leeds railway line.

The 47-year-old man, from the Sheffield area, was struck by the 2.04pm Manchester Airport to York Transpennine Express service, just after 3pm on Saturday.

It happened close to Heaton Lodge junction, near Waterside Walk, Battyeford in Mirfield.

The man was taken to Dewsbury District Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

Trains were stopped for more than 90 minutes.
