A man severely injured in a road accident near Elland is in a stable condition in hospital.

The 61-year-old pedestrian suffered serious injuries when he was involved in a collision accident with a bus on Wakefield Road, Salterhebble at 10.23am on Monday morning.

The road, next to Calderdale Way, is the main one from there to Sowerby Bridge.

The accident happened not far from the mini roundabout leading from Stainland Road onto the Calderdale Way and next to the Calder and Hebble Navigation canal.

The pedestrian was taken to Leeds General Infirmary for specialist treatment due to the nature of the injuries.

A police spokeswoman said: “He is now in a serious but stable condition.”
