AN 80-YEAR-OLD driver was involved in a terrifying road rage incident.

Austin Holroyd was left badly shaken after his car was hit by a large white van in Almondbury.

Now police are hunting the driver of the Mercedes Sprinter which hit Mr Holroyd's BMW in Woodsome Road yesterday afternoon.

Mr Holroyd, of Almondbury, said he had been "tailgated" by the van along Woodsome Road after turning left from Penistone Road.

"He was right up behind me all the way up the road," he said. "I signalled to turn right into St Helen's Gate and put on my indicator in plenty of time.

"Suddenly the van shot up beside me on my right-hand side, scraping all down the side of my car.

"The van careered across the grass island in the centre of the junction and roared off up Woodsome Road towards Farnley Tyas.

"My front wheel had been wrenched across and the car was stuck across the middle of the road.

"It was only when I got out and saw the damage I realised how lucky I had been. It was frightening."

Police are trying to trace the driver of the white van and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
