AN elderly man was badly hurt in a crash with a cement lorry.

The 81-year-old from Upperthong suffered chest injuries when his Ford Fiesta was in collision with the yellow and black lorry at the Sovereign crossroads in Shepley at 8.30am yesterday.

The lorry was coming down Penistone Road from Ingbirchworth and the car was coming out of the road leading from New Mill.

The man was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, where his condition is said to be stable.

Pc Ray Terry, from Huddersfield traffic police, said: “We believe there were several cars in the area at the time.

“We would appeal for anyone who saw the collision or either the cement lorry or the car in the moments just before to contact us.’’

The front of the car took the force of the impact, which triggered its airbags.
