AN 89-year-man has died in a road tragedy in Golcar.

The pedestrian was crossing Scar Lane, near Golcar Working Men's Club, at 3.25pm yesterday.

He was in an accident with a black Toyota saloon car driven by a Lockwood woman.

The man, who lived in Golcar, was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, but later died from his injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

The man was wearing a light- coloured flat cap, a tweed jacket and green trousers and was using a walking stick.

Pc Adrian Whitehead, of Huddersfield traffic police, said: "We need to speak to anyone who saw the man trying to cross the road. We are trying to establish what happened directly before the accident.

"There were a lot of people about at the time because children had just finished school. But we are having some difficulties finding anyone who actually saw the incident."

Anyone with information should phone police on 01484 436847.
