A MAN has appeared in court after using a spy pen to record women using the toilet.

Adrian Layden, of Pearl Street in Batley, placed the secret camera in bathrooms in two houses.

The sick footage was discovered by the 42-year-old’s ex-wife when he dropped the spy pen at her home.

Layden pleaded guilty to five charges of recording a private act when he appeared before Kirklees magistrates.

The women had been recorded for months before the device was found last February.

Linda Fowler, prosecuting, told the Huddersfield bench that Layden had gone to his ex’s home to see his children.

A number of items fell from his pocket, which his former wife retrieved after he left.

Mrs Fowler said: “One of these items was a spy pen which looks like a regular pen however with a camera at the end, microphone, internal memory and a USB connector.

“She connected the pen to her computer and saw that it contained video clips of women using the toilet.”

Magistrates heard that the spy pen was handed to police who sent the device off for investigation.

It was found to contain footage of five women using the bathroom in two Batley houses.

Mrs Fowler said: “It shows their naked bottoms and glimpses of their groin area.

“The women identified themselves and said they had given no permission to be in the film.”

Layden claimed that he ordered the spy pen over the internet because he liked gadgets.

He claimed that he had been suffering from depression and got no sexual gratification out of the images shot.

Layden will be sentenced on February 14 after magistrates adjourned the case for a full report.
