A forty-five-year-old man has been arrested after a clubber was left critically injured in an alleged assault in a popular town centre bar.

Police say the 39-year-old victim suffered a fractured skull and bleed on the brain after being assaulted in the corridor outside the toilets at the Mavericks 80s Lounge in King Street, Huddersfield.

The victim, believed to be a Huddersfield man, was taken to hospital and is now recovering on a rehabilitation ward 10 days later.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened at 2.20am on Sunday, January 17.

Officers have released images of several witnesses they would like to speak to.

Det Insp George Bardell, of Kirklees CID said: “A 45-year-old man from Huddersfield has been arrested on suspicion of assault and has been bailed pending further enquiries.

“The 39-year-old victim is recovering in hospital.”

Det Con Cath Lowdon, of Kirklees CID, said: “We would like to speak to anyone who was in Mavericks bar that evening and witnessed this incident which left a man with serious injuries.

“We would like to speak to the people in the photos as we believe they may have witnessed the incident and may be able to help with our enquiries.”

Maverick’s is a popular venue with clubbers and is open into the early hours.

It has the motto “drink, dine and dance” and opened in Huddersfield five years ago.

No-one from Mavericks was available for comment.
