A 27-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested in connection with the theft of a dog from Cleckheaton.
The Bradford man was charged with theft after his arrest on July 21 and will now appear before Dewsbury Magistrates early next month.
It follows an incident on Friday, January 16, 2009, when a 77-year-old man walked his dog to Tesco supermarket on Northgate in Cleckheaton, and tied it to the railings before entering the store.
Less than a minute later, a man was seen on CCTV to walk up to the dog and run off with it through Cleckheaton town centre.
Following house-to-house inquiries the dog was discovered dead in a beck at the Mann Dam at around 3.30pm two days later.
A 25-year old man was arrested in January, 2009. He was later charged with theft, but failed to appear at court in March of that year.
He will now appear on August 9.
