A 19-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested after police found the bodies of a man and a young woman in a field near Rotherham.

South Yorkshire Police launched an investigation following the discovery of the bodies close to the village of Woodsetts last night.

Officers arrived after a teenage girl raised the alarm with a local farmer and the two bodies were found by a police helicopter.

A man found in a nearby car was arrested in connection with the incident.

A force spokeswoman said it is believed the dead man and woman travelled to the Woodsetts area from Sheffield city centre together with the girl who raised the alarm and the man in custody.

"They were found dead at the scene at about 11.20pm following a police search," she said.

"The bodies were spotted close together in a field near Woodsetts Road by the force helicopter.

"The alarm was raised by a teenage girl who ran to a nearby farmer and he contacted the police."

She said a post-mortem examination was due to take place later and no further details were available.

The arrested man is being questioned at a Rotherham Police Station.
