AN ELDERLY man attacked his wife and then set himself on fire.
The 77-year-old, who was thought to be mentally ill, died from his injuries in the incident on Sunday.
His 72-year-old wife is recovering in hospital.
As reported yesterday, police and firefighters were called to reports of a ‘domestic incident’ at Fairmount Terrace in Earlsheaton on Sunday.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police were called at 11.18am on May 23 to reports of a domestic-related assault at an address at Fairmount Terrace in Dewsbury.
“A 77-year-old man was located at the scene who had self-ignited his clothes.
“He subsequently died as a result of his injuries.
“A 72 year old woman was taken to hospital with head injuries and is currently in a stable condition,” the spokesman added.
