A MAN suffered serious head injuries in a mass brawl in a Huddersfield street.

The incident happened in Sullivan Close, Crosland Moor, shortly before midnight on Friday.

The 40-year-old man and two others were injured during the violence.

Police responded quickly to reports of several people fighting in the street.

The man was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary with serious head injuries. He was transferred to Leeds General Infirmary for specialist treatment.

His condition over the weekend was said to be critical, but police confirmed it has improved overnight.

A police spokeswoman said: "He is making good progress today."

Police arrested seven men over the weekend in connection with the incident.

Six have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

The other is still in custody and was being questioned by police during the day.

All those arrested are in their late teens to late 20s.
