A man was badly injured today when a 10-tonne digger rolled on top of him.

He was struck by the machine as it was being unloaded from a trailer at a building site in Honley.

The badly-injured victim was flown to Leeds General Infirmary by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, which landed on the fields at Honley High School.

Police have closed the road after the incident, which happened shortly before 8am.

It is believed the injured man is in his 50s and has serious leg and crush injuries.

The digger toppled off the back of the trailer and rolled over the man, demolishing a stone wall and coming to rest against a tree.
