A MAN who was caught drink driving claimed he did not realise there was still alcohol in his system from the night before.

Jaroslaw Marczuk, of West Bowling in Bradford, was before Huddersfield magistrates yesterday.

He was banned from driving after admitting drink driving on Leeds Road in Huddersfield on December 3.

Police realised that he had been drinking after he was involved in a car crash, the court was told.

Prosecutor Vanessa Schofield said that two other drivers had to brake because of the traffic, however Marczuk did not see this.

His car then hit the back of one car which then hit a second car. A male driver received minor injuries as a result.

Marczuk had 78 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mg.

Marczuk, 37, admitted drink driving.

Magistrates were told that this was his second driving offence within a short period of time.

Bob Carr, defending, said that Marczuk had been living in the UK for four years and described him as hard-working.

He said: “This is one of these sad cases where drinking the night before makes you think that you’re quite capable of driving.

“Let that be a lesson to everybody that you’re not because alcohol can still be in the bloodstream.”

Magistrates banned Marczuk from driving for 40 months. They also fined him £335 and ordered him to pay £85 towards court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
