A MAN was beaten in the face and chest with a hammer in a vicious robbery in Dewsbury.

The victim was walking along the Spen Valley Greenway last night when he was approached from behind by two men.

One of them demanded the victim’s mobile phone and he was then shoved to the floor by both men who started kicking him.

One of the attackers then produced a hammer and used it to hit the victim in the chin and chest.

They then snatched the mobile phone from the victim before he was able to get to his feet and run away.

He required hospital treatment as a result of the incident which happened at about 8.15pm on Wednesday night.

Police are hunting the two men.

The first is aged 20 to 22, 5ft 5in, of a small build and white.

He was wearing a red rain coat with a hood that covered his head, and he spoke with a local accent.

The second is also aged 20 to 22 and 5ft 5in.

He is of a slim build and was wearing a black hooded rain coat and dark blue jeans.
