A MAN was hit with a pallet during a vicious and unprovoked street attack.

In his bid to escape the thugs the victim leaped over a wall and badly hurt his ankle and foot when he plummeted 5ft the other side.

The 22-year-old was walking on Rawthorpe Lane, near its junction with Holays in Rawthorpe, at 6.30pm on Thursday when two attackers came up behind him.

They pulled his hooded top over his head, threw him to the ground and kicked and punched him.

He got up, but they then swung a wooden pallet at him, crashing it down on his back.

The victim got up again and this time jumped over the wall, but ended up badly injured on the other side.

He suffered a broken left heel bone along with damaged ligaments and tendons. He was also left bruised by the attack.

Det Con Steve Shaw, of Huddersfield CID, said: "The attack happened early in the evening, so someone may well have seen what happened.

"We would urge them to contact us."

One of the attackers was described as a white man, about 5ft 11in tall. He wore a dark, hooded top.

His accomplice had a similar appearance.
