A man had his wallet taken after a stranger offered him a lift home then returned to distract him.

The 65-year-old was waiting for a bus in Birstall town centre when the driver of a white Ford offered a lift.

The suspect then returned to the victim’s home moments later claiming he had left something in his car.

While in the victim’s house, the cruel thief stole his wallet and cash.

Police have now released an e-fit of a man they want to speak to following the burglary, which happened on Wednesday, August 10 between 3 and 4pm.

PC Sarah Culley of Kirklees CID, said: “Enquiries are ongoing regarding this distraction burglary and we would like to speak to anyone who can identify the man pictured.

“We would advise residents to be vigilant regarding this type of con, and ask anyone who has been approached by a man in similar circumstances to contact the police.

“Information can be passed to Kirklees CID on 101 referencing crime number 13160344184.”
