A MAN has appeared in court accused of stabbing another man during a fight, leaving him seriously injured.

Paul Rankin, 38, was before Kirklees magistrates yesterday.

He faces a charge of unlawful and malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The alleged offence took place at an address in Nibshaw Road, Cleckheaton, on May 23.

Alex Bozman, prosecuting, said that Rankin fought with Alan Smith who was visiting a friend there.

During the struggle, Rankin is alleged to have pulled out a Stanley knife and stabbed Mr Smith.

The prosecutor said that Mr Smith suffered serious injuries.

He is being treated at the high dependency unit in Dewsbury and District Hospital.

Magistrates remanded Rankin, of Great Horton in Bradford, in custody until May 31.
