A MAN has appeared in court after failing to stop and report a car accident.

Gerard Dodgson, of Marsh Lane in Shepley, was before Huddersfield magistrates yesterday.

The bench was told that on September 20 the 46-year-old had been on his way to Manchester Airport to catch a flight.

But when he was in the long-stay car park at Huddersfield railway station his car hit another vehicle, causing some damage.

Bob Carr, defending, said that following the incident Dodgson called his partner and told her what had happened.

He then contacted his insurance company when he returned from the trip.

Mr Carr said: “Clearly he should have left a note, told somebody at the station or notified police.

“It was a genuine error on his behalf which will be paid for by the insurance company.

“He had nothing to be gained by not reporting this.”

Mr Carr told magistrates that he planned to contact British Transport Police to see if it is in the public interest to proceed.

Magistrates agreed to adjourn the case until February 21.
