A MAN had to be cut free from the wreckage of his car after a crash at Fartown on Friday evening.

Fire crews from Huddersfield and Brighouse were called to Woodhouse Hill where two cars had collided.

The crash, at 6.15pm, happened at a narrow point in the road, where cars coming downhill are supposed to give way to those going up.

A Ford Mondeo was coming down the hill and failed to give way to a Ford Fiesta coming up the hill.

The two vehicles collided head on.

The male driver of the Mondeo, from Sheepridge, was trapped and had to be cut free.

He suffered a fractured leg.

His wife, the front seat passenger, had whiplash and chest injuries.

The Fiesta driver, from Birstall, suffered whiplash injuries.

His wife, the front seat passenger, also suffered whiplash.

All four were taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
