A man escaped unhurt after a blaze broke out in his kitchen.
The man fled his flat on the fourth floor at Marlborough House in St Mary’s Gate, Elland, at just after 5pm today.
Firefighters using breathing apparatus tackled the blaze, started by a pan of fat which burst into flames. Much of the kitchen was destroyed.
Fire crews from Elland, Brighouse, Halifax and Huddersfield attended. Residents in neighbouring flats were told to stay in their homes until the fire was out.
No-one was hurt.
