A MAN has been fined after bags of drugs were found in his car outside a college.

Ryan Garthwaite, 22, was before Huddersfield Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Prosecutor Vanessa Schofield said that on June 10 police searched a vehicle on Commercial Road, Skelmanthorpe.

She said: “The car was outside Shelley College at 9pm. The defendant was driving and was stopped by police. They discovered five small bags of white powder in his pocket.”

The drugs found were DMMC, a class B stimulant drug.

Garthwaite was remanded in custody after failing to attend his first court appearance.

He pleaded guilty to the two offences.

Garthwaite claimed that the drugs were for his own personal use.

He said he had forgotten to come to court as he struggled to remember dates because of his dyslexia.

Magistrates fined him £200, including court costs and a victim surcharge. They also sentenced him to a further day in custody.
