A MAN was lucky to escape serious injury when his car caught fire and the flames engulfed his garage.

The middle-aged Dewsbury man was using a drill to repair the petrol tank on his Ford Fiesta when petrol fumes ignited at 7.25am today.

He managed to get out of the garage on Thornhill Street, Saviletown, but suffered a burned hand.

The car was destroyed and the fire ripped through the garage roof.
